The exact words that came to my mind when I sat to write this small piece.

I thought to myself, what is stopping me from doing something, nothing!

The mental block that one may face to finish some tasks is real.

As noted by motivational speaker Tony Robbins, “The only thing that’s keeping you from getting what you want is the story you keep telling yourself.” This highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing the mental blocks that are hindering our progress.

Psychologists have also noted the impact of mental blocks on productivity and mental health. According to Dr. Judy Willis, a neurologist and teacher, “When we feel overwhelmed, we shut down the parts of our brain responsible for creativity and problem-solving.” This can lead to a vicious cycle where the more we feel blocked, the harder it becomes to finish a task, which in turn reinforces the mental block.

So, how can we overcome mental blocks? One effective way is to break down the task into smaller, more manageable steps. Another way is to take a break and engage in a different activity, such as exercise or meditation, to clear the mind. As Dr. Willis suggests, “Taking a mental break and shifting our focus can help us regain perspective and recharge our brain’s creative capacity.”

In conclusion, mental blocks are a real obstacle that can prevent individuals from completing tasks. However, with the right strategies and mindset, it is possible to overcome them and achieve our goals. As motivational speaker Zig Ziglar once said, “You don’t have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.”

Sometimes you just need to start.

I love this illustration, many times in the past had the same feeling and went through the same journey. Cold showers were the first thing that I hated and couldn’t get myself to do it in the morning, I convinced my mind that warm water or at least lukewarm water was needed for me to bath in the morning. But as soon as the first cup of cold water hit my body (and I scream and jump around in the bathroom), it would be ok.

The same thing used to happen to me when I used to undertake any big task, I would overthink and make it such a huge thing in my mind that I would resort to anything to avoid doing it. I still do, but understanding the psychology behind it has definitely helped me reduce procrastination to an extent.

Starting a new project or task can be daunting, especially when the task at hand is complex or unfamiliar. However, sometimes the hardest part is just getting started. Procrastination and self-doubt can prevent us from taking action, but taking that first step is often the key to success.

As acclaimed author and speaker, Mel Robbins once said, “You are never going to feel like it. You have to push yourself.” This quote highlights the importance of taking action, even when we don’t feel ready or motivated. Starting is often the hardest part, but once we take that first step, the rest becomes much easier.

Another quote that emphasizes the importance of starting is from leadership expert John C. Maxwell: “The greatest gap in life is the one between knowing and doing.” This quote highlights the fact that we can have all the knowledge and skills we need, but without taking action, we cannot achieve our goals. Starting is the bridge that connects knowledge and action.

Finally, entrepreneur and author Seth Godin once said, “The only thing worse than starting something and failing… is not starting something.” This quote highlights the regret that comes with not taking action. When we don’t start, we miss out on the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Sometimes we just need to start, even when we don’t feel ready or motivated. Taking action is often the key to success, and the first step is the most important.

As the saying goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
